Peripheral is an installation with a Dot Matrix printer and a script I programmed that, in short, performs based on a feedback loopwith itself. The printer is set up with various microphones on it, under the table, and around it capturing a large spectrumof the sound generated from the various processes happening when printing. The program then indexes a score in ASCIIthat I wrote based on the volume, pitch and dynamics of each notational phrase as it sounds printed. An informed decisionis then made by the program based on this index, creating a indefinitely running piece. The script chooses which line toprint based on the median output throughout the duration of the overall piece and a preprogrammed concept of classical dynamics, printing lines from the index and maintaining a decided path of where it has been and where it should go. The paper fed intothe printer is looped, also impacting the sound temporally as the piece continues.
